Urban Local Bodies

"The main objective of the formation of the Directorate of Local Bodies: - Based on the recommendations of the Urban Relationship Committee set up by the Government of India, the Government of Uttar Pradesh envisaged the formation of the Directorate of Local Bodies in 1971, which came into existence in 1973. The basic objective of the formation of the Directorate was to practically monitor the functioning of the bodies, financial condition and proper maintenance of funds. One objective was also that the government was facing difficulty in direct correspondence with the urban bodies of the state and after the formation of the directorate, the government created a medium for contact with the bodies."
